ALOCRIL, approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1999, is a prescription eye drop for itchy allergy eyes. An estimated 50 million Americans suffer from all types of allergies, and an estimated 4 percent of all allergy sufferers have eye allergies as their primary allergy.1
Important Safety Information

ALOCRIL? ophthalmic solution is contraindicated in those patients who have shown hypersensitivity to nedocromil sodium or to any of the other ingredients. Users of contact lenses should refrain from wearing lenses while exhibiting the signs and symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis. Avoid allowing the tip of the dispensing container to contact the eye, surrounding structures, fingers, or any other surface in order to avoid contamination of the solution by common bacteria known to cause ocular infections. Serious damage to the eye and subsequent loss of vision may result from using contaminated solutions.

Frequently reported adverse events included headache, nasal congestion, ocular burning, irritation, stinging, and unpleasant taste in ten to forty percent of patients. Other events occurring between one and ten percent included asthma, conjunctivitis, eye redness, photophobia, and rhinitis. Some of these events were similar to those produced by the underlying ocular disease being studied.
