Uses

This medication is a multivitamin and mineral supplement used before and during pregnancy. It provides important vitamins and minerals that are necessary during pregnancy and may also help reduce nausea caused by pregnancy.
How to use Folbecal Oral

Take this medication by mouth, usually once daily or as directed by your doctor.

Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day.

Side Effects

This medication usually has very few side effects. If you have any unusual effects from taking this medication, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

An allergic reaction to this product is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), dizziness, trouble breathing.

This is not a complete list of possible side effects. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or if you have any other allergies.

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: vitamin B12 deficiency (pernicious anemia).

This medication is recommended for use during pregnancy. Certain spinal cord birth defects may be prevented by getting adequate amounts of folic acid during pregnancy. Consult your doctor for more details.

This medication passes into breast milk. While there have been no reports of harm to nursing infants, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Interactions

Your healthcare professionals (e.g., doctor or pharmacist) may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for them. Do not start, stop or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first.

This drug should not be used with the following medications because very serious interactions may occur: certain anti-cancer drugs (e.g., altretamine, cisplatin).

If you are currently using any of these medications listed above, tell your doctor or pharmacist before starting this medication.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially: certain anti-seizure drugs (e.g., phenytoin), chloramphenicol, levodopa, pyrimethamine.

The calcium in this product can decrease the absorption of other drugs such as tetracycline antibiotics (e.g., doxycycline, minocycline), estramustine, bisphosphonates (e.g., alendronate), levothyroxine, and quinolone antibiotics (e.g., ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin). Therefore, separate your doses of these medications as far as possible from your dose of this product. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about how long you should wait between doses and for help finding a dosing schedule that will work with all your medications.
