Description:

Fluor-a-day fluoride supplement is for use as a dental caries preventative in children. Each Fluor-a-day chewable [1.0 mg F (full strength) contains 2.2 mg sodium fluoride USP, equivalent to 1.0 mg Fluoride ion 0.5 mg F (half-strength) contains 1.1 mg sodium fluoride USP, equivalent to 0.5 mg Fluoride ion 0.25 mg F (quarter strength) contains 0.55 mg sodium fluoride, equivalent to 0.25 mg Fluoride ion] in a specially formulated vehicle containing xylitol, a non-cavity promoting sweetener. Also contains sorbitol, magnesium stearate, carboxy methylcellulose sodium and artificial flavours. Fluor-a-day drops are flavorless, colorless, and odorless. Each ml (20 drops) contains 2.50 mg fluoride ion (F) from 5.56 mg sodium fluoride (NaF), approximately 0.125 mg F per drop. Also contains methylparaben and sodium hydroxide to adjust pH.

Dosage depends on concentration of Fluoride in drinking water. Tablets to be chewed before swallowing, preferably at bedtime after brushing teeth. Drops should be administered in juice or water.

Indications and Usage:

It is well-established that ingestion of fluoridated drinking water (1 ppm F) during the period of tooth development results ina significant decrease in the incidence of dental caries. Fluor-a-day tablets and drops were developed to provide Fluoride for those living in areas where the water Fluoride level is 0.6 ppm or less.

Contraindications:

Do not use Fluor-a-day tablets or drops in areas where the F content of the drinking water exceeds 0.6 ppm F. As in the case of all medications, keep out of reach of children. Chronic renal insufficiency and failure, arthralgia, gastrointestinal ulceration and osteomalacia are contraindications to Fluoride therapy.

Precautions:

Incompatibility of Fluoride with dairy foods has been reported due to formation of Calcium Fluoride which is poorly absorbed.

Overdose:

Prolonged daily ingestion of excessive Fluoride could result in dental fluorosis. In children acute ingestion of 10 mg to 20 mg of Sodium Fluoride may cause excessive salivation and gastrointestinal disturbances: 500 mg may be fatal. Oral and/or intravenous fluoride containing calcium may be indicated.

Caution:

Federal (USA) law prohibits dispensing without prescription. Store at room temperature.
