USES: This medication is used to treat or prevent eye infections.

HOW TO USE: For best effects, this medication must be used as directed. Continue using it for the full time prescribed. Stopping this medication too soon may not clear the infection and could possibly result in a reinfection. Apply eye ointment to the affected eye(s) as follows: Wash hands first. To avoid contamination, be careful not to touch the tube tip or let it touch your eye. Rolling the ointment tube in your hands for a minute will make the ointment flow easier. Tilt your head back, gaze upward and pull down the lower eyelid to make a pouch. Place 1/4 to 1/2 inch of ointment into the pouch by squeezing the tube gently. Close the eye and roll the eyeball in all directions to spread the medication. Try not to blink and do not rub the eye. Wipe the tip of the ointment tube with a tissue to remove excess medication before capping it. If you are using an eye drop in addition to this medication, apply the eye drops first and wait at least five minutes before applying this eye ointment. If you are using another type of eye ointment, wait at least ten minutes after using this medication before applying it.

SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may temporarily sting or burn your eyes for a minute or two when first applied. If this continues or becomes bothersome, inform your doctor. Vision may be temporarily blurred or unstable for a period after applying eye ointment. Use caution if driving or performing duties requiring clear vision. Notify your doctor immediately if you develop: skin rash, itching/burning/redness/pain/swelling in or around the eyes, vision problems. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: other eye problems, allergies (especially to any antibiotics or sulfites). This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy or while breast-feeding. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered do not use it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double-up the dose to catch up.

STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat. Check the expiration date on the tube and discard any expired medication.

NOTES: If the condition for which this was prescribed does not improve or becomes worse after a few days, consult your doctor.
