Melatonin is an essential hormone found in all living creatures. It is typically associated with regulating the circadian rhythms also known as the sleep cycle. In humans, melatonin is produced by the brain and is controlled by the presence of light. Darkness causes increased production of melatonin which signals the brain to begin its sleep cycle process. Melatonin supplements can be used to help shift or regulate irregular sleeping patterns. They are especially effective for jet lag or people who need to adjust their sleep patterns. Melatonin should be consumed only at bedtime and should not be used for more than 2 weeks at a time as dependencies may form. There are three versions available for sale each work differently for different sleep irregularities. The standard 3 mg version is recommended for people who usually take less than 1 hour to fall asleep or need to shift their sleeping patterns by only a few hours. The 3 mg timed-release is recommended for those people who take up to 3 hours to fall asleep or need to shift sleeping patterns by several hours. The 5 mg sublingual version, a quick dissolve tablet placed under the tongue, will help for short early morning insomnia (people waking up frequently for less than 1 hour during normal sleep).
Directions for Use:
As a dietary supplement, place one tablet under tongue and dissolve 30 minutes before bedtime. Do not take more than 1 tablet daily unless advised by your health care professional.
