FML is available as an eye ointment or suspension that is used to treat steroid-responsive inflammation of the eyelid and the eye itself.

Do not use FML more often or for a longer period of time than your doctor instructs. Overuse can increase the risk of side effects and lead to eye damage. If your eye problems return, do not use any leftover FML without first asking your doctor.

If inflammation or pain lasts longer than 48 hours or becomes worse, discontinue FML and call your doctor.

FML is packaged as a sterile medicine. Avoid touching the tip of the bottle to any surfaces, including your eye, to decrease the spread of possible infections to your eye.

Benzalkonium chloride, which is the preservative in FML, may be absorbed by soft contact lenses. If you wear soft contact lenses, you should wait at least 15 minutes after instilling FML suspension to insert your soft contact lenses.

Do not use FML if you have ever had an allergic reaction or are sensitive to it or to any of its ingredients. You should not use FML if you are allergic to other steroid medications. .

FML is not prescribed for patients with certain viral, fungal, and bacterial infections of the eye.

Tell your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medication you are taking before beginning treatment with FML. Also, talk to your doctor about your complete medical history, especially if you have cataracts or other eye diseases glaucoma (elevated pressure in the eye causing optic nerve damage and loss of vision) a history of herpes simplex or if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your doctor uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your doctor may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your doctor's approval.

Adults: FML Ointment: Apply a small amount of ointment (about 1/2-inch ribbon) between the lower eyelid and eyeball 1-3 times a day. FML Liquifilm: Place 1 drop of suspension between the lower eyelid and eyeball 2-4 times a day.
