# The combination of hormones in Balziva prevents ovulation. Balziva also causes changes in the cervical mucus and uterine lining, making it difficult for sperm to reach the uterus. If a fertilized egg does occur, it likely will not be able to attach to the uterine lining.
Common Side Effects
# The most common Balziva side effects include headaches, nausea, bloating, breast tenderness or swelling, spotting between periods, and eye changes causing difficulty in wearing contact lenses. These effects usually are temporary.
Serious Side Effects
# Although rare, some serious side effects are possible with Balziva. They include blood clots, stroke, heart attack, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, severe edema, liver damage, migraines and breast lumps.
Risk Factors
# The risk of cardiovascular issues increases with age, particularly after 35, and in women who smoke. Women who have had a hormone-related cancer, liver disease, abnormal vaginal bleeding or cardiovascular problems may not be able to safely take Balziva.
Drug Interactions
# Several drugs interact with Balziva, some making contraception less effective. They include certain antibiotics, anti-seizure medications, barbiturate sedatives, corticosteroids and protease inhibitors.
