Important Safety Information
Do not take ALTACE? during pregnancy, as death or injury to your unborn child may result. Do not take ALTACE? if you have experienced serious side effects related to previous ACE inhibitors.
Common side effects include persistent dry cough, dizziness, and light-headedness due to low blood pressure. Prescription ALTACE? is not for everyone. ALTACE? may cause swelling of the mouth, tongue, or throat, which could cause extremely serious risk and requires immediate medical care. There have been rare reports of low blood sugar in patients taking ALTACE? with medicine for diabetes. Please contact your healthcare professional if you have symptoms of low blood sugar such as sweating or shakiness.
Do NOT take ALTACE? if you are allergic to ALTACE? or other ACE inhibitors.
If you experience side effects that you think may be associated with ALTACE?, talk to your healthcare professional. DO NOT discontinue taking prescribed medication without letting your healthcare professional know.
ALTACE? is the only ACE inhibitor proven to reduce the risk of having a heart attack or stroke in people aged 55 or older who have any combination of the following serious cardiovascular (heart-related) risk factors1,27,28:
* Diabetes and 1 other risk factor such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or a habit of cigarette smoking29
* Coronary artery disease. You may have coronary artery disease if you have angina, have failed a stress test, or had bypass surgery or an angioplasty (either a stent or a balloon angioplasty)29
* Previous heart attack.29 People of all ages who have had 1 heart attack are at greater risk of having another30
* Previous stroke.29 Having a stroke increases your risk of having another stroke. For example, 14% of people of all ages who survive a first stroke or mini-stroke will have another within 1 year30
* Peripheral vascular disease.29 People with peripheral vascular disease have an increased risk of having a heart attack or a stroke in the future
