Delsym® is the longest-lasting cough relief sold without a prescription.
It’s a cough medicine doctors and pharmacists have recommended for years. In fact, Delsym® is the only over-the-counter cough liquid that can deliver 12 hours of cough relief in a single dose. That means you and your children can get the rest you need without getting up for more cough medicine.
Plus, as a cough remedy, Delsym® is also a great value. You dose less often—two times daily (every 12 hours) vs. up to six times daily for other cough syrups
Delsym®: A little goes a long way.
Only orange-flavored Delsym® provides you 12 hours of cough relief from a single dose.
* Twice daily dosing (every 12 hours) vs. up to six times daily for other cough medicines (see comparison chart)
* Single active ingredient — contains no fever reducer or pain reliever
* Available in 3 oz. and 5 oz. bottles
What is a Cough?
What You Need to Know to Manage Your Cough
Facts about your cough
* A cough is a sudden burst of air from the lungs that may be uncontrollable or may be forced.
* Coughing helps clear mucus and other matter from the throat and lungs.
* You may feel a tickle in your throat. The tickle tells your brain that you need to cough.
* Most coughs last less than three weeks; these are called acute cough. Some coughs last for more than three weeks; these are referred to as chronic cough.
* A productive cough brings up phlegm or mucus to be spit out. It sounds wet. A nonproductive cough is dry and hacking.
Things that can make you cough
* Mucus or phlegm from a cold or respiratory infection
* Postnasal drip from a cold or allergy
* Bacterial or viral infection, like the flu
* Dust, pollen, smoke, strong odors
* Asthma and allergies
* Bronchitis
* Acid reflux
* Some medicines
How you can take care of a cough
If your cough is mild, just started, and not too bothersome:
* Drink plenty of fluids.
* Get plenty of rest, even if you don’t feel sick.
* Consider an over-the-counter cough medicine like Delsym® for cough due to common cold or inhaled irritants. Talk to your pharmacist or health care provider to find out which medicine is best for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between a productive and non-productive cough?
As the name implies, a non-productive cough is a dry, hacking cough that is often caused by the minor throat and bronchial irritation that accompanies the common cold, or from inhaling irritants in the air. A productive cough brings up phlegm (mucus)—and may be beneficial in clearing airways.
How can Delsym® provide longer cough relief than other OTC cough suppressant liquids?
Delsym® is made with a patented time-release formulation that allows the medicine in Delsym® to be available to the body over an extended 12-hour period.
So many cough and cold medications, including Delsym®, warn against use with an MAOI inhibitor. What is that?
Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI) are drugs used to treat depression, psychiatric or emotional conditions, or Parkinson’s disease. If you are taking a MAOI drug, consult with your doctor before you take any medicines. If you do not know if your prescription drug contains an MAOI, ask a doctor or pharmacist before taking this product. Do not use Delsym® for two weeks following stopping the MAOI use.
Does Delsym® contain a fever reducer or pain reliever?
No. Delsym® contains a single active ingredient, dextromethorphan, which supresses the “cough center” in the brain.
What is the difference between the adult and children packages of Delsym®?
They are the same formulation. Both offer 12-hour relief. Single active ingredient simplicity. Great orange taste. In fact, pediatricians have been recommending Delsym® for years. Delsym® children’s package makes it easier for parents to find the only 12-hour cough medicine sold without a prescription. The only difference is in the dosing in children vs. adults. Please read and follow directions carefully. For other questions, please consult a doctor, pharmacist, or other healthcare professional.
